Woman dies following road collision in Laois, woman injured after being struck by a car in Dublin

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses for incidents which occurred in Laois on Friday night and in Dublin in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 48-year-old woman died and a woman in her 50s was injured following separate road accidents in Laois and Dublin on Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.

At approximately 10pm on Friday night, Gardaí and Emergency Services were called to the scene of a two-car collision on the N80 at Ballickmoyler in Laois.

A 48-year-old woman and driver of one of the cars died at the scene. The driver of the second car, a man in his 40s, was taken by ambulance to Tullamore Hospital. His injuries are understood to be serious.

The road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda forensic collision investigators will examine the crash site on Saturday morning and the local Coroner has been notified.

Gardaí in Dublin are appealing for witnesses following a traffic collision in Rathmines in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A female pedestrian aged in her 50s was injured when she was struck by a taxi car on Leinster Road shortly before 1am.

The woman was taken by ambulance to St James’ Hospital. The collision site will be examined by a local crime scenes unit on Saturday morning. Local traffic diversions are currently in place.
