Garda dies while on duty in Galway

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A male Garda in his late 30s became ill while on duty in Clifden Garda Station, County Galway in the early hours of Monday morning.

The officer was found by his colleagues shortly before 7am.

Emergency services were called to the scene and pronounced the man dead a short time later.

The man, believed to be local, was a member of An Garda Síochána for 13 years. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

His body has been removed for a Post Mortem Examination at University Hospital Galway. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.

Gardaí have also confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
