Naturally, England fans have a calm and measured response to beating Colombia

Did you expect anything less?

England narrowly defeated Colombia in a World Cup round of 16 game following extra time on penalties.

Harry Kane put the side ahead through a penalty with his sixth goal of the tournament, before Yerry Mina’s towering header leveled things with seconds remaining.

Following an uneventful extra time, the game would be settled on penalties.

Jordan Henderson was the only English player to miss, as Jordan Pickford proved to be the hero with a brilliant save from Carlos Bacca’s penalty.

And naturally, England fans have had a calm, measured response to the result, as they’re well aware that there’s still loads of football to be played, and that the performance itself was quite underwhelming.

Only joking, they’ve gone absolutely nuts.

Note: if you are triggered by the words ‘it’s coming home’, look away now.

Unfortunately for England, they do have another three games to play, if they make it that far.

It’s Sweden next for The Three Lions in a game which they should really win, and if they do, we can expect some more calm, mature, measured responses to the final whistle.

That being said, if Ireland made it to the quarter final of a World Cup, we’re fairly sure that we’d have Martin O’Neil’s face on the five euro note the following morning, so we can’t talk.

But ‘it’s coming home’ trending on Twitter the night of a win on penalties in the round of 16 might be taking it a little too far.

Let’s see how the tournament progresses.
