This is great to see.
While the relatively younger generation of Dublin fans might not know anything but a period of dominance in Gaelic football, that 16 year wait between the Dubs’ win over Tyrone in ’95 to the famous day against Kerry in ’11 was filled with lows.
One man that was there throughout Dublin’s barren spell was Michael Lyster as The Sunday Game host frequently did what he does best, broadcasting the sport that we all love so much.
Humility and hard work are two traits that define Jim Gavin’s men and in a fitting tribute to the Galway native, Stephen Cluxton and Dublin’s manager presented Lyster with the match ball from today’s win over Tyrone.
“We just want to wish you the best of luck in your retirement, you’re a smashing man, a great broadcaster and you’ve given some great days to GAA supporters” said Cluxton.
Dublin’s manager then paid tribute to Lyster’s professionalism, dedication and love for the game. At this point, Gavin presented Lyster with the match ball from today’s All-Ireland final and in a moment of sheer class, Lyster still refused to take the spotlight.
The Galway native said: “Any All-Ireland match-winning ball is special but when it’s from this Dublin side, it’s extra special.”
A small example of the class and grace that defines Lyster’s skill as a broadcaster.
Enjoy your retirement Michael, you’ll be sorely missed.

Lovely gesture by @DubGAAOfficial to Michael Lyster with a signed match ball. Even after all the success there is so much humility in that panel. So many of their players are pushing boundaries off the field and are really excellent men as well as players #standards #culture
