WATCH: Rim Of The World is basically Stranger Things with aliens instead of demogorgons

Netflix + Awkward Kids + Potential Armageddon = $$$

Clearly the streaming giants have found a niche that they’re comfortable with, so why shouldn’t they work it to the nub?

Stranger Things is still hugely popular after just two seasons, so now we’re getting Rim Of The World, which is a movie telling the story of four awkward teenagers who may hold the key to saving the planet.

Except this time, they’re not fighting interdimensional demons, but lizard-like aliens.

And the metaphorical key of Stranger Things is replaced by a literal key here.

From the writer of the first Thor movie, as well as X-Men: First Class, and the director of Terminator: Salvation (not as bad as you’ve heard/remembered) and This Means War (exactly as bad as you’ve heard/remembered), you’ll definitely spot some obvious nods to big sci-fi movies like Transformers, E.T., Terminator 2, War Of The Worlds, and…

“It’s Independence Day!”, yells one of the characters in the trailer. “It’s June!”, yells back another.

Perhaps not unironically, the long-awaited third season of Stranger Things will be released on Thursday 4 July, whereas Rim Of The World arrives on Netflix on Friday 24 May.
