OFFICIAL: Season 3 of Mr Mercedes will air on RTÉ in September

Paul Moore

Mr Mercedes Season 3

This looks a lot more like Season 1.

There are three universal truths when it comes to the career of Brendan Gleeson.

1) There’s no such thing as too much Brendan Gleeson.

2) The Dubliner is always incredible whenever he’s on screen.

3) Gleeson’s most memorable performances – and there have been many – are usually when he’s playing a character that’s flawed, troubled and a bit damaged.

That’s why the star of In Bruges and The General was the perfect choice to play Bill Hodges in Mr. Mercedes, the adaptation of the beloved Stephen King novels.

At this point, let’s get the obvious out of the way.

Season 1 was incredible, Season 2 was not, but as always, we’re trusting his impeccable taste.

RTÉ has confirmed to JOE that it is earmarking a provisional broadcast date of Monday, 16 September at 10.30pm on RTÉ 2 for the first episode of the third season.

Of course, this date is subject to change but the news is extremely positive for fans of the show.

As for the plot of the new season, once again, it’s going to be based on the best-selling Bill Hodges trilogy by Stephen King.

When beloved local author John Rothstein (Bruce Dern) is found murdered, Hodges (Brendan Gleeson), Holly (Justine Lupe), and Jerome (Jharrel Jerome), along with local police, must track down his killer. But this case is more complex than the cold-blooded killing of an American icon.

Unpublished novels of Rothstein’s were stolen from his home, and they are worth millions. As the case unfolds, the trio learns that although Brady may be gone, his depravity lives on in the lives of his victims.

Creator David E. Kelley returns for the third season alongside Jonathan Shapiro, with Jack Bender continuing to direct.

Take a look at what’s in store.
