Now, more than ever, entertainment producers are truly vying for our attention.
Take professional wrestling, for instance. For the first time in years, WWE has a potentially serious rival in the form of All Elite Wrestling, who they’ll go head to head with on Wednesday nights from next week as WWE’s NXT brand takes on AEW’s new Dynamite show.
And if wrestling isn’t your bag, well, just look around at Disney’s ongoing cultural domination, huge rights fees paid to exclusively house classic shows on specific streaming services, and various platforms making moves to secure the biggest and most talented names around.
It’s a war, my friends. One major player on the streaming side of things is Apple TV+, which is set to launch this November, promising some heavyweight productions along the way.
You’ve got the likes of prison escape novel adaptation Shantaram and Jason Momoa’s dark dystopian drama See, and now we have the first look at a new suspense series from the one, the only, M. Night Shyamalan.
Servant will see Hollywood’s favourite twister (not sure that works, but we’re going with it) turn his attention to TV once more, following his work on Wayward Pines a few years back.
The plot centres on a couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage, opening the floodgates for a mysterious force to enter their home.
And if you’re wondering what that might look and sound like, Apple are in a teasing mood, dropping two brief but intriguing snippets earlier this week.

The 10-episode, 30-minute show stars Toby Kebbell, Lauren Ambrose, Nell Tiger Free, and Harry Potter man Rupert Grint. It is set to premiere to a select few at a special New York Comic Con event on 3 October.
A general release date has yet to be revealed, however. Loves a mystery, that guy…
