The streaming service launched earlier in the week.
Disney+ is yet to launch here in Ireland, but we’d be absolutely amazed if people aren’t already buzzing for when it does.
It has literally every single Disney movie ever made, as well as loads of Star Wars content, Marvel content and every last episode of The Simpsons (except one).
A lot of the movies uploaded to the service were made in a very different time and as a result, Disney+ is issuing a warning about “outdated cultural depictions” at the start of a number of movies, including Dumbo, The Jungle Book and Swiss Family Robinson.
The warning reads: “This program (sic) is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions.”
Dumbo, which was released in 1941, features a number of crows that are depicted with exaggerated black voices, with the main crow being called Jim Crow.
Warner Bros have been issuing a similar warning for a number of years, explicitly stating that the content shown does depict racial prejudice, while also saying that “they are being presented as they were originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these racial prejudices never existed”.
