Anyways, this isn’t the time or place to discuss the theory of relativity, this is where we talk about movies on TV.
THURSDAY 20 FEBRUARY
Dante’s Peak – FilmFour – 6.55pm
Pierce Brosnan is a volcano scientist, and he is pretty sure that a long dormant volcano is about to explode, but nobody believes him. This is basically Jaws, but with the shark as a dinosaur. The explosion’y stuff at the end is great craic, though.
Employee Of The Month – Comedy Central – 9pm
Dane Cook (remember him?) falls in love with his new co-worker Jessica Simpson (remember her?) at the huge supermarket they work at together, but she only fancies the best worker wherever she works. Because… sure, why not. And he is usually the worst worker, but he decides to better himself so she’ll love him. Because… yeah, okay, I guess that’s how love works.
X-Men: Apocalypse – FilmFour – 9pm
Not as bad as Dark Phoenix, not as good as Days Of Future Past. Elevated slightly by Oscar Isaac having a blast as the creepy villain, but mostly this is just an excuse to watch James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender’s magnetic (geddit?) screen chemistry.
Haywire – Syfy – 10pm
Gina Carano ditches professional wrestling to take on Michael Fassbender (him again!), Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas and others in this weird but entertaining action thriller.
Training Day – ITV4 – 11.50pm
Denzel Washington is the corrupt detective who has been left in charge of training new recruit Ethan Hawke, and he quickly takes him on a trip around the nastier sides of LA, showing him the depths of depravity that cops-gone-bad have access to.
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension – FilmFour – 11.50pm
The sixth (and, to date, last) Paranormal Activity movie tries to tie up a lot of plot loose-ends, even though nobody was really asking them to. No matter, this is still all about those creepy, slow-moving-camera scares, and this one has loads of them. Plus the seventh PA movie is set to arrive in 2021.
