The bomb squad has been called in.

The Harold’s Cross Bridge is currently closed off in both directions, after a grenade was discovered in the area earlier today (13 May).

A statement from An Garda Síochána confirmed that the grenade was recovered from the water, and it has been reported that it was found by someone who had been fishing. The area is just south of Dublin’s city centre.

Gardaí further confirmed that area is currently cordoned off and the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit are at the scene.

The road is closed in both directions to road traffic and pedestrians. Local diversions are in place.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
