Woman (26) dies and two men injured following road collision in Galway

Tragic news.

A 26-year-old woman has died following a single vehicle collision in Galway on Sunday evening.

The woman was a rear seat passenger in a car involved in a collision with a concrete post at Caherlistrane on the R333 Headford to Tuam Road at approximately 6.45pm on Sunday evening (23 August).

Her body has been removed from the scene to the Mortuary in University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem will take place.

A male driver (32) and male front seat passenger (28) were both injured in the collision and were removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardaí in Tuam are investigating the collision, which occurred when the car left the road and collided with a concrete post.

The road remains closed at this time and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision investigators will conduct their examination on Monday.

Gardaí are appealing to any road users who may have travelled the road and can assist them, or drivers who may have dash cam footage, to contact them in Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Tuam Gardaí are also appealing to any persons who have already contacted Gardaí to make contact again in relation to this collision.
