It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
You’re picking your Fantasy Football team. You’ve been entered into a work league, a family league, and a league with your mates.
But you don’t want to come last again. It’s embarrassing. And you have promised yourself that you won’t do what 99% of people do every year and forget about it by Christmas.
So if you don’t give up after two months, you’ll probably do better than most people anyway.
But if you really want to make it to the top, here are the five players you should have in your team.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang
He may be the most expensive player in the game, but that is the case for a reason.
For some bizarre reason, Arsenal’s talisman is down as a midfielder, and he is essentially guaranteed to get at least 20 league goals this season.
The Gunners ended the season quite strongly, and Arteta seems to have them all singing from the same hymn sheet, so PEA will surely reap the benefits.
Mason Greenwood
Another man who is wrongly down as a midfielder, Mason Greenwood is a must for the start of the season. When he plays, he scores, and until Jadon Sancho comes to Old Trafford (which may not happen at all), he’s going to play a lot. And at 7.5 million, he’s relatively cheap.
Allan Saint-Maximin
Newcastle have quietly had a brilliant transfer window, with Jamal Lewis, Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Jeff Hendrick all joining the Geordie side.
And one man is going to benefit massively from that in particular – Allan Saint-Maximin. He was comfortably Newcastle’s best player last season, even when opposition teams doubled up on him. Now with Fraser and Wilson thrown into the mix, defences will have a lot more to worry about, leaving the tricky Frenchman free to rack up the points.
James Ward-Prowse
Southampton had an excellent end to the season, and Ward-Prowse’s set-pieces are key to the side’s success.
With Danny Ings and Che Adams’ movement in front of him, and a decent set of wide players, at only 6 million he’s a no brainer.
Matthew Ryan
The Brighton keeper is one of the cheapest first-choice goalkeepers in the game, and he will be playing behind a serious defence this season.
Though Big Shane Duffy has gone to Scotland, they’ve still got Lewis Dunk and Ben White at the back, as well as the magnificent Tariq Lamptey, and Ryan will make a lot of saves, because he is very good in goal.
Simple.
