This is the highest figure recorded on this island since the beginning of the pandemic.

1,080 further cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Northern Ireland over the past 24 hours.

However, no new deaths were recorded.

The 1,080 positive cases were out of a total 6,447 tests conducted.

This is the highest figure that’s been recorded in Northern Ireland, and it’s also higher than the Republic’s single highest daily total (1068 in April).

This come after 923 cases were confirmed on Thursday.

Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill confirmed that she is currently self-isolating after a family member tested positive for coronavirus.

Earlier in the day, Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney confirmed that an agreement has been reached by the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with both parties believing that more needs to be done across the border to tackle Covid-19.

He said: “If funding is necessary for a Covid response in terms of public health response in Northern Ireland then London will look at that seriously.”

On Wednesday, figures that were released showed that 4,417 cases were confirmed in the North in previous seven days, compared to 3,113 in the Republic.

An update is expected on the figures from the Republic of Ireland later this evening.
