Alcoholic beverage and tobacco prices in Ireland are 86.9% higher than the European Union average.

It’s official, your pint is one of the most expensive in Europe as Ireland ranked third in Europe for alcohol and tobacco prices.

According to new Eurostat figures, Ireland came in third with a consumer price level of 186.9, meanwhile, Iceland was number two with a level of 189.7, and Norway came in first with 219.7

These figures mean that alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices in Ireland are 86.9% higher than the European Union average.

The figures also show Ireland came in second in pricing costs for housing at 177.7, second only to Switzerland at 193.6. Meanwhile, it came fifth for the price of transport services at 37.1% higher than the EU average.

Ireland is also 40% higher than the EU average in terms of communications and 28.9% higher for the cost of restaurants and hotels.

Price level indices (PLIs) provide a comparison of countries’ price levels relative to the EU average and are calculated using purchasing power parities.
