Gerard Butler attempts to rescue the US President.
Run All Night – Turner Classic Movies / TCM – 9pm
In a bid to protect his son from mob vengeance, Liam Neeson runs all night.
Collateral – ITV4 – 9pm
Our main pick this evening.
A sharp-suited, grey-haired Tom Cruise does the rarest of things – inhabits a stone-cold villain.
Cruise plays Vincent, a seemingly charming man who books Jamie Foxx as his taxi driver for the evening while he conducts some late-night affairs. Alas, it turns out that Vincent is a ruthless assassin on a tight deadline.
Michael Mann directs this exciting thriller with all of his usual stylistic tricks, and there’s even a great Audioslave needle drop right when the tension threatens to become too much to bear.
The Aviator – TG4 – 9.15pm
Martin Scorsese’s biopic of filmmaker and aviation pioneer Howard Hughes boasts an exceptional lead performance from Leonardo DiCaprio that probably should have landed him that then-elusive Oscar.
Green Book – RTÉ One – 9.30pm
This won the Academy Award for Best Picture, despite many people questioning that decision.
Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali learn to bond in 1960s America as a working-class bouncer becomes a driver for a classical pianist.
Sicario 2: Soldado – Virgin Media One – 10pm
Nowhere near as good as the first Sicario – a hard bar to raise, in fairness – but you at least have Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin back on board to continue the grim and gritty story.
The Business – Film4 – 11.20pm
Danny Dyer’s gangster heads for Spain where various violent delights await.
Fences – Film4 – 1.15am
Sensitive Oscar-winning drama with Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.
