Gardaí investigating following violent assault of woman in Cork city

The incident took place on Saturday night.

Gardaí have opened an investigation following an incident of assault that took place in Cork city centre last weekend.

The incident occurred at approximately 11.30pm on Evergreen Street on Saturday, 29 January.

A woman aged in her 20s was injured during the event and was later taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

Her injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening.

According to the Irish Examiner, the woman was walking along the street when a lone man attacked her before a number of people happened upon the scene and intervened, causing the man to flee.

The suspect has not been located and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

However, a Garda spokesperson confirmed to JOE that they are following a definite line of enquiry.

The investigation is ongoing.
