Glass – Film4 – 9pm
Our pick for tonight, this 2019 movie from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan concludes the filmmaker’s superhero trilogy which began in 2000 with Unbreakable and continued with its surprise standalone sequel Split in 2016.
In Glass, heroic superhuman vigilante David Dunn (Bruce Willis) finds himself trapped in a psychiatric hospital with his archenemy Mr Glass (Samuel L. Jackson), as well as a superhuman struggling with dissociative identity disorder (James McAvoy).
Glass received mixed reviews upon its release, with some taking issue with the way Shyamalan wrapped up certain characters’ storylines.
That said, the movie does boast a handful of terrific performances and deserves credit for attempting to do something different with the superhero genre.
Hellboy – ITV4 – 9pm
Another superhero flick, this time from auteur Guillermo del Toro.
Focusing on a demonic beast-turned hero (Ron Perlman), we’ve recommended this action-packed yet emotional blockbuster many a time.
The Enforcer – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
The third entry in the Dirty Harry franchise.
The Skeleton Key – Horror Channel – 9pm
In this 2005 chiller, a hospice nurse (Kate Hudson) working at a New Orleans plantation home finds herself entangled in a mystery involving the house’s dark past.
Flying Leathernecks – Great! Movies Classic – 9pm
Hollywood legend John Wayne stars in this ’50s movie detailing the lives of US Marine Corps aviators during World War II.
Apollo 11 – Sky Showcase – 9pm
This documentary focusing on the Apollo 11 mission to land on the moon has a near-perfect 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Let Us Prey – Horror Channel – 11pm
This creepy and quite violent Irish horror is set in a remote police station and follows a mysterious stranger (Liam Cunningham) who begins to take over the minds and souls of everyone inside.
Unforgiven – Turner Classic Movies – 11.05pm
Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this incredible revisionist Western which won the Best Picture award at the Oscars.
The Boss – Film4 – 11.35pm
Melissa McCarthy stars in this comedy as a wealthy woman who, after being arrested and losing her fortune, plots a return to the top.
