Woman in her 80s dies following road collision in Cork

Very sad news.

A woman has died following a fatal road traffic collision in Cork on Friday, 26 August.

At approximately 10.30am on Friday morning, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a single-vehicle collision that took place on St Mary’s Road in Midleton.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, a woman aged in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at a later date.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to examine the scene. As of Friday afternoon, the road has been closed to traffic and local diversions have been put in place.

The local coroner has been notified.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward and for those with camera footage to make it available to them.
