How McGargles became one of Europe’s most popular independent craft beers


“Italy’s our biggest export market. We go across to the UK, they can’t pronounce it, right?”

Rye River Brewing Company, the Kildare based brewery, is well known for its award-winning craft beers. In Ireland, their most famous brand is McGargles, based around a dysfunctional family, but it’s not on sale in the UK due to pronunciation problems. Instead, other Rye River Brewing brands are available for purchase.

Managing director of Rye River Brewing Company, Tom Cronin, spoke to host Sonya Lennon on The Architects of Business, made in partnership with EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™, about the challenges they faced and the journey to creating the internationally recognised craft beer.
