Selma Blair has apologised to those affected by an alleged incident aboard a Delta flight, as she speaks out publicly for the first time since being charged with assault.
The 54-year-old actor addressed the situation in an Instagram video, explaining that she had stayed silent for several weeks on the advice of her legal team.
With the case still before the courts, Blair said she could not discuss what happened on October 11.
“I know I've been quiet for a couple weeks since October 11. And you deserve to hear from me directly, and I'm sorry that it's taken this long. There is a legal matter going on, and my lawyers have asked me to not say anything about that day, and I'm listening to them,” she told followers.
Although she avoided going into detail about the allegations, Blair offered an apology to anyone who had been affected by the incident.
“And so to the people that I disappointed, that I hurt, I frightened, that I alarmed, I am so sorry,” she said.
She also expressed her appreciation for the people who had checked in on her and sent messages of support.
Blair said she was concentrating on her health and her son, and reassured followers that Scout, her service dog, was doing well.
The actor was travelling with Scout on a Delta service from Los Angeles to New York when an alleged confrontation involving cabin crew took place.
The incident resulted in state assault charges, which Blair has denied. She has pleaded not guilty to accusations that she kicked a nurse and a police officer.
Police allege the confrontation continued after the plane landed, when officers attempted to restrain Blair on a stretcher before taking her to Jamaica Hospital Medical Centre for an assessment. They claim she was kicked out during the process.
Blair appeared before Queens Criminal Court on Monday, October 12, two days after the alleged altercation.
Her representatives previously said the incident occurred following a serious medical emergency.
The Legally Blonde star was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018. Scout has accompanied her for the past five years and was also with her during the flight at the centre of the case.
While Blair has now addressed her supporters, she has not commented on the specific allegations, citing the ongoing legal proceedings. The case remains unresolved.
