Bootcamp Ireland prepares to get JOE into shape

We're all set to start JOE's Fitness Challenge. But first, an introduction to Bootcamp Ireland, the people who'll be putting some of us through our paces.

JOE

We’re all set to start JOE’s Fitness Challenge. And putting some of our volunteers through their paces will be the tougher than tough instructors from Bootcamp Ireland.

Over the coming months, our volunteers will be keeping us informed of how things are going for them each week here on JOE.ie, and their instructors will be offering fitness tips that we can all benefit from.

But before we get ready to sweat it out, here’s an introduction to the innovative company that’s brought military style discipline to getting seriously fit.

Bootcamp Ireland was the first company in Ireland to offer military style training with real military fitness instructors. The concept and ethos behind the company is to get people fit by getting them using the outdoors in a sociable, encouraging environment. Bootcamp is all about getting fit, reaching personal goals and, importantly, having fun.

All classes are mixed, and people taking part tend to be active, health-conscious people, maybe using Bootcamp as a way of complementing their fitness regime for marathons and triathlons, but you will find people who haven’t exercised in a long time and are looking for a serious kickstart. They train all year round: hail, rain or shine.

Bootcamp is all about maintaining or starting a healthy lifestyle and getting fit and active in a fun and motivating way. All their instructors have a solid military background and are experts in physical training. With a bit of “get down and gimme 20” you always leave a Bootcamp class knowing you’ve had a great work out. According to the instructors, you can’t beat the endorphin rush you get after an intensive session.

It’s not just about fitness either. The organisers claim that it’s a great way for people to make new friends and widen their social circle. Beyond the weekly classes, they also offer activity trips such as hikes, ski trips and surfing trips.

In terms of age, the majority of people joining up are in their 30s but they have a good mix, from people in their twenties, right up to people in their forties.

In terms of fitness they have an open fitness level policy so everyone trains at their own pace: what you put into it, you get out of it. The instructors are very good at motivating and encouraging Bootcampers to reach and push their limits.

All sessions are run over an eight week period which includes two scheduled classes per week with free bonus classes every Saturday morning.

Bootcamp currently holds training sessions in over 26 locations across the country including in Dublin, Greystones, Limerick, Meath, Clare and Cork and expanding rapidly.
