JOE

JOE catches up with Frankie Dolan, during the wind-down for the JOE challengers at Bootcamp Ireland.

Name: Frankie Dolan

Age: 29

Location: Rathfarnham

Weight: 77kg

Occupation: IBS Sales Executive

JOE: Is the bootcamp coming to a finish for Christmas?

Frankie Dolan: I was there on Monday night but I didn’t get to go last night. Next Monday is the last session before Christmas. I might do Saturday morning as well to make up for the Christmas party I was at.

JOE: Out of 10 how beneficial bootcamp has been for you?

FD: I’d say 8 out of 10. The snow meant we had to go to the gym which wasn’t as good as outdoors but there’s nothing you can do about that. That was only for a week or two. It’s been brilliant so far though.

JOE: Did you find the indoor training easier?

FD: It’s probably a bit easier, yeah. We’re normally on the astroturf pitches outside so that makes it harder straight away.

JOE: Have you felt or noticed any differences in your physique since you started?

FD: It’s been brilliant for toning. It’s all circuit training for the last two months. I wouldn’t have been able to do 10 or 12 press-ups before and now I can do 100 easily. They’re done in sets but you don’t feel it passing by at all. It’s way better than being in the gym because you can’t cut corners. The trainers are roaring away with you but in a good way. There’s somebody pushing you the whole time and that’s very effective.

JOE: Do you dread turning up for any session?

FD: Never. Every week is different. Some nights you go in there and there’s an exercise that’s a pain but you never have to do that one again. You never know what you have to do the following night. I’ve had different trainers every night for the last two and half months. They all have different methods and there’s a great variety. I haven’t got bored of it.

JOE: Are you having good craic doing it?

FD: Yeah, there’s a friend of mine along with me doing it. We’ve been sticking at it. There’s a lot of women in the group and there’s always good banter. The Christmas party was on the other night but I couldn’t make it. I heard it was a wild night.

JOE: So what’s the plan for the new year?

FD: I’m booking in for January. You could pay €300 for the gym and wander in and do nothing, so this is way better value and I’ll get way more done. There’s loads of different ways of paying for it, so it’s convenient. And the choice of venues in Dublin is brilliant. There’s six or seven around the place, a great choice.
