Diet? No. Want to lose weight? Get out the big plate.

Everyone loves having breakfast food and just because it is meant to be had in the morning doesn't mean squat to anyone.

If we want to have midnight toast, we will and if we want to have some Coco-Pops for dinner or Weetabix for lunch, you're not going to stop us.

However, your first meal of the day is not only delicious but it's extremely important also.

A new research study by Loma Linda University in California has shown that making your breakfast bowl the biggest meal of the day is a big key to losing weight.

The seven-year study had over 50,000 participants who came from the United States and Canada and were over the age of 30.

In small terminology, the study found that people who had a larger first meal of the day also had a significant decrease in Body Mass Index (BMI) than those who did not.

Although there was not as much of a decrease, the same was said for those who had a big dinner also and a link was present between meal timings and a decrease in BMI too.

BMI is of course not the best way to measure your weight or how healthy you are but not skipping a meal is very important to your body.

It sets you on the road for the day and means that you won't be as likely to open the press and nibble on some snacks in between meals.

They found that leaving five to six hours between meals every day and leaving 18 hours between dinner and the following breakfast helped decrease BMI.

Its findings were published in the Journal of Nutrition.
