JOE

JOE catches up with Padraig Redfern for a brief chat on how the Limerick man is faring in his bid to get back into shape at Bootcamp Ireland.

Name: Padraig Redfern

Age: 26

Location: Dromkeen, Co. Limerick

Weight: 88kg

Occupation: Field Sales Executive

JOE: So how are things progressing?

Padraig: It’s going well. My last session was my first time stepping up to the next level in training, so I’ve a few aches and pains from that.

JOE: How many times have you been at this stage?

Padraig: I’ve been to four sessions, I missed one session because of work, but other than that I’ve been to all of them.

JOE: How are you feeling? Any aches or pains?

Padraig: Nothing serious, but just a few aches and pains. I suppose that’s a sign that it’s working!

JOE: Does the training vary or is it a case of doing similar stuff each time you go along?

I’ve had different coaches and the training varies. We have done a lot of circuit work and sprints, as well as things like push-ups and other upper-body exercises.

JOE: Have you noticed any difference in yourself, in terms of how you feel etc?

Padraig: I’ve noticed that I have more energy. I’ve noticed that when I come home from work on nights that I’m not training, I would feel like doing something else, even if it’s going out for a walk or kicking a football around or something.

JOE: Will you stick it out do you think?

Padraig: Hopefully. I work with a drinks company and coming up to Christmas we’re going to be busy so I’m hoping that I will be able to find the time for the two nights. But I enjoy it – it’s something that I look forward to on a Monday and a Wednesday. It means something must be going right when you’re looking forward to putting yourself through all that pain.

JOE: So would you recommend this type of training to others?

Padraig: Definitely. The first two sessions you really feel the pain. Well I did anyway. I wouldn’t have been that fit but the more you go the less aches and pains you get and the more you’re able to push yourself. It’s about getting over that first hump and getting the motivation to get up and do it.
