Rio Ferdinand’s Saturday morning workout snap will give you all the motivation you need to hit the gym

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has always been an imposing figure.

Standing at a towering 6ft 3, the former Manchester United defender has always been hard to miss both on the pitch and off. But his physical presence was always more about his lankiness than anything else. As a player he was a slender figure of elegance next to brawny Nemanja Vidic. More greyhound than pitbull.

But that has clearly changed somewhat since the big man retired from the game. Now a BT Sport pundit, Rio has continued to keep his fitness up but is focussing more on mass than he used to. Whereas fitness in his footballing days was all about maintaining speed and agility, he can now add more muscle to his frame.

On Saturday morning, by way of both motivation and perhaps some understandable vanity, Ferdinand shared an image of himself working his arms with large dumbbells. Many were taken aback by his body transformation and sheer ‘swollness’. We’d advise his fellow pundits to just smile and agree with everything he says from now on
