When some sports stars retire they just give up and can’t be arsed staying in shape.

The routine of daily training, strict diet and no booze goes well out the window – and why not, enjoy yourselves gents.

Some sporting legends, on the other hand, refuse to let themselves go.

Former Manchester United and England centre-back gave us an insight into his training regime with a video of his morning workout.

Thursday looks like full-body workout day in the Ferdinand household, with Rio doing barbell bench press, bent-over rows, dumbbell curls for them arms and some metabolically-demanding wall ball thrusters to finish.

We think Mel might be shouting ‘ass to grass’ at Rio on the wall balls.

But at least he’s not following fellow former Manchester United star Phil Neville’s Spanish morning workout regime.
