While all the talk across the water has been about David Beckham, Spain have put together a fantastic looking Olympic football squad. More success for La Roja?
Putting aside the fact that Olympic football tournaments are generally a bit rubbish, we are beginning to look forward to London’s attempt, and it is not so we can see Ryan Giggs try to find the head of Craig Bellamy with a cross either.
What we will be tuning in to watch is a fantastic looking Spanish side, a version of which has appeared online this morning.
While Team GB will have some Premier League regulars like Aaron Ramsey and Scott Sinclair to call on, Spain have a few European Championship winners in their ranks. One of the stars of the tournament, new Barcelona full back Jordi Alba, has been included in their Olympic squad.
Also in Luis Milla’s squad is another player who, like Alba, scored in the final, Chelsea’s Juan Mata while Javi Martinez, the big defender who now has a World Cup and European Championship medal to his name, is also included. Sergio Busquets also qualifies as an Under-23 player but he has not made the list released today.
However, outside of those players just home from Poland, there is more to look out for. David de Gea will be in goal, after an excellent season at Old Trafford, while Barca duo Thiago and Cristian Tello are also in the 18.
Then there is the fantastic Iker Muniain from Athletic Bilbao, Chelsea's Oriol Romeu and Atleticoi Madrid's Adrian
The full squad of 22, which will be reduced to 18, is listed below. At 11/4 to win the Olympic tournament, Spain might be the bet of the summer.
