Director Neill Blomkamp knows his way around action sci-fi.
He directed the incredible District 9, as well as the Matt Damon-starring Elysium, and dark comedy thriller Chappie. He had been lined up to direct a sequel to Aliens, before Ridley Scott returned to the series with Prometheus, so instead he’s reviving another sci-fi classic, with Robocop Returns supposedly due to arrive in cinemas in 2020.
Before then though, he has given EA a spectacular live-action short movie in the lead-up to the release of their huge new video game, Anthem.
JOE was lucky enough to get a few hours hands-on with the game prior to release (read all about that here), but this new trailer is set decades before the time period you’ll be playing in the game itself.
It has the look of an epic sci-fi adventure like Star Wars, but mixed with Blomkamp’s incredible eye for action set-pieces and gritty realism.
We know that we shouldn’t get excited for a video game based on a live-action trailer, but… well… we are now super excited. Plus, someone should just give Blomkamp the rights to make a movie out of the game right now!
Anthem will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Friday 22 February.
