A potential Fortnite-beater was released without warning this week

The big-budget free-to-play battle royale game has taken everyone by surprise.

On Monday evening, Respawn Entertainment called a massive press conference about a top secret project.

With just two games under their belts so far – Titanfall and Titanfall 2 – it was probably fair for everyone there to assume that they were about to drop some information on, well, Titanfall 3.

Or maybe even Star Wars Jedi: New Order, the huge game on the movie universe.

Instead, they went and “done a Beyonce” by dropping a brand new, previously unheard-of project out of nowhere.

Apex Legends is their brand new, free-to-play battle royale game that will put them in direct competition with the big boys like Fortnite and Player Unknown Battleground.

The game is described as follows:

“Conquer with character in Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale game where legendary challengers fight for glory, fame and fortune on the fringes of the Frontier. Choose from a roster of unique characters and experience the next evolution of battle royale.”

Apex Legends is available to download on PS4, Xbox One, and PC right now.
