Horizon Forbidden West’s 2021 release date has also been officially unconfirmed.

It was September 2020 when PlayStation released an official teaser for maybe the most anticipated game on their upcoming slate.

The teaser didn’t give us much, not even an official title, but it did give a very clear release date…

… 2021.

However, it has now been confirmed that God Of War: Ragnarok (which is somehow still not confirmed to be the actual title) has been pushed to next year.

Developers at Sony Santa Monica Studios took to Twitter to release a full statement on the delay:

“Since the release of the next God of War teaser last year, we’ve been humbled by the amount of love our community has show us. We’re incredibly grateful so see so many people excited to experience the next chapter of Kratos and Atreus’ journey”.

“We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift out release window to 2022”.

Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, then followed this up with some good news for those who haven’t managed to land a PlayStation 5 yet but might still be hoping to play these next-gen games, before immediately following that up with some potentially bad news:

“Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 – for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 – we’ll continue looking at that. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them.”

“For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season. But that isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can.”

So that makes two of the PlayStation’s biggest games potentially no longer coming out this year. Which only mores the pity, because the recent gameplay footage from Horizon Forbidden West looks absolutely brilliant.

Fingers crossed it isn’t delayed too long!
