GTA 6 release date could be sooner than expected, new report suggests

GTA6

It has now been almost exactly a decade since Grand Theft Auto V was released.

Is there a more anticipated game than GTA6? Probably not, right? Not unless Valve do a 180 and pull the trigger and announce a one-two punch of both Half-Life 3 and Portal 3. Meanwhile, we’re closing in on a full decade since Grand Theft Auto V arrived in stores, and we’re getting… antsy.

There was no clear sign of when GTA6 might actually arrive, but this week, Take-Two Interactive (the publishers of the GTA series) issued a press release of their yearly earnings report, and IGN picked up on the following paragraph:

Looking ahead, Fiscal 2025 is a highly anticipated year for our Company. For the last several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater levels of success. In Fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow. We expect to sustain this momentum by delivering even higher levels of operating results in Fiscal 2026 and beyond.

While they don’t specifically mention GTA6, the goal of $8 billion would need to see a major influx of money (their regular yearly earnings usually come to about $3 billion), which would suggest that the sixth Grand Theft Auto game would be arriving within the next fiscal year.

And that fiscal year runs from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, so Grand Theft Auto 6 could be landing on our consoles in less than a year. While an entire year window is a big target, take into account that Take-Two expects the full $8 billion of earnings to be achieved by the March 2025, so that will take time to amass after the game’s release, meaning we should expect the game to launch closer to the start of that fiscal year.

Considering that GTA6 is reportedly set to be the most expensive game ever made, those big profits will definitely be needed.
