The console turns 30 years old this week.
Although we didn’t get it until September 1990, the Sega Genesis (known as the Sega Mega Drive over here) was first released in North America in August 1989, making it the must-have Christmas gift for that year.
There is a chance that now, three decades later, it could somewhat become the must-have Christmas gift for this year too, as the Sega Mega Drive Mini (or Genesis Mini, as it is known in the States) is set to be released on Friday 4 October.
The launch trailer has been released, and between that voice-over (which sounds a little bit like George Takei?), to the retro graphics and visuals, it is a massive wave of nostalgia, come to destroy us with how old we all feel now.
The new mini-system will be released with two controllers, a HDMI set-up for your TVs that won’t know what to do with graphics this old, as well as 40 games (and two more bonus ones for good measure).
The full list of the accompanying games, as well as details on how to get the console, can be found below the trailer.
