JOE Gaming Weekly – Holy moly, Starfield is going to blow us all away

Rory Cashin

We get a look at what could well be the most anticipated game of 2022.

Welcome to JOE Gaming Weekly, your weekly round-up of all things gaming.

Or, specifically, the one big game you should play this week, the one big piece of gaming news you need to know about, and the one big deal available to purchase this week.

So, off we go!

MUST PLAY OF THE WEEK

Grand Theft Auto V / GTA Online

Yes, we know it isn’t a new game, but it is a newly upgraded edition for the next-gen consoles, so if you’ve never played it before – or are desperate to play it again, but with better graphics – then now is the time, as it will be available extremely cheaply for the next few weeks.

PS5 players can get it right now for €9.99 for the first three months, before it goes up to its regular price of €39.99, while Xbox Series X|S players can get it right now for €19.99 for the first three months, before it goes up to €39.99.

GTA Online will be free for PS5 players and €9.99 for Xbox Series X|S players right now, before going up to €19.99 after three months.

BIG NEWS OF THE WEEK

We get the latest behind-the-scenes look on Starfield

If the hype is to be believed, Starfield is going to be the most realistically immersive story in gaming history. The folks at Bethesda, who are creating the new epic sci-fi open world RPG, discuss the game’s space exploration, companions, story paths and loads more.

In terms of games that will likely require players to fully “live in” their environment, Starfield gives the impression that it will require and consume countless hours, days, weeks, months and likely years to properly uncover every aspect that the developers and creators have buried into it.

Starfield will debut on Xbox Series X|S and PC on Friday, 11 November.

DEAL OF THE WEEK

Aliens: Fireteam Elite

If ever there was a setting that felt like a perfect match for the team-based online shooter, it was getting plonked down in the middle of a xenomorph invasion, with nothing but your fellow colonial marines and your huge pulse rifle to keep you alive.

Simply hop on with two mates (or two strangers) and face off against hordes of the twenty different types of alien, in a properly tense and at-times-properly-scary third-person shooter.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is available on the PS Store until Wednesday, 23 March, marked down from €39.99 to just €19.99.
