Nothing stays extinct.

Everyone thinks that it was GoldenEye on the N64 that was the ground-breaker in terms of entertaining first-person shooters, but in reality, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter arrived several months before it, and it really showed off what the console was capable of.

Well, what consoles in 1997 were capable of, anyway.

The plot was… for lack of a better word, bonkers.

You controlled a time-travelling Native American warrior who had been chosen to protect the Earth from the Lost Land, a place “where time has no meaning”. The Lost Land is populated with dinosaurs, aliens, and a weapon so powerful it could destroy all of Earth, and it is up to you to get your hands on it before the baddies do.

To put it gently, Hollywood wasn’t exactly knocking down the door to make the movie version, but it was still a hugely entertaining game, which went on to sell millions on copies on the N64.

And now Nintendo fans and owners will be happy to know that a re-release of the remastered version of Turok is due to become available for the Switch from Monday, 18 March.

Time to hunt T-Rexes with big knives again, because sure what else will you be doing the day after Paddy’s Day?
