Resident Evil 8 will effectively be the first big game release of 2021.

After the massive success of 2017’s Resident Evil 7, which effectively rebooted the third-person zombie-shooter into a first-person survival horror, the folks behind the game are following it up with another scare-fest, and this time they’re bringing in a lot more new monsters to fend off.

Set a few years after the events of RE7, the official synopsis of Resident Evil Village is as follows:

“Ethan Winters has been living with his wife Mia and daughter Rosemary when Chris Redfield suddenly appears and kidnaps him to a mysterious European village. Ethan has to traverse the village to rescue Rosemary. The game also features an antagonist known as Alcina Dimitrescu, as well as the deity-like figure Mother Miranda, who is a presence worshipped by the villagers.”

It turns out that Miranda, and some of her most ardent followers, are pretty much vampires, while the European village in question is being tormented by what appears to be a pack of werewolves. So Ethan has his hands full.

Capcom have released a brand new trailer for the game in the lead-up to the launch next month, which effectively makes Resident Evil Village the first major game release of 2021.

Additionally, they’ve announced when the demo of the game will be available prior to launch, for you to test out to see if you want to go ahead and purchase the whole thing once it comes out.

If you have a PlayStation, you’ll have access to the Village portion of the demo from 5pm on Sunday, 18 April until 1am on Monday, 19 April, and then the Castle portion of the demo from 5pm on Sunday, 25 April until 1am on Monday, 26 April.

Xbox, Steam, and Stadia players will have access to both from 12.01am on Sunday, 2 May until 11.59pm that same day, with the players deciding how much of their hour-long demo to play between the Village or the Castle portions.

The full game of Resident Evil Village will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on Friday, 7 May.
