A look at some of the best B&Bs around Ireland

There is some real value for money out there

Eric Lalor

Some of these are better than a lot of hotels.

Tripadvisor compiled a top 25 list of the best B&Bs in the world and two Irish entries ended up in the top ten. With such a reputation for fine accomodation in the B&B sector, we look at some of the best B&Bs of Ireland.

Lawcus Farm Guesthouse – Kilkenny

Another award winner, we love the look of this one. It’s a renovated stone farm house located in a beautiful countryside setting. If you want to chill out and get the head together, this is probably an ideal place for you.

It’s located between the medieval village of Kells and Stoneyford. You’re only a short walk away from the beautiful Kings River too.

Friars’ Glen – Killarney, Co. Kerry

If you like your idyllic surrounds, this gem situated slap bang in the middle of Killarney National Park is the one for you. It’s a family run B&B so you’re going to get that lovely comforting homely touch.

One of the best things about this B&B is it’s location where you are very close to the bustling town of Killarney. This is ticking a lot of our boxes so we are going to put it on our B&B bucket list.

Mallmore Country House – Clifden, Co Galway

Dating back to the 18th century, this beautiful old house is located in the heart of Connemara. This place has bedrooms which have stunning views over Clifden Bay. Each room individually decorated and whilst looking like they’ve been preserved for history, they maintain all the usual mod cons too.

It’s surrounded by stunning gardens and if there’s one thing we like here in JOE, it’s a stunning garden! The breakfasts themselves have won awards so there is some delicious nosh to be had here too which is always nice.

Inishowen Lodge – Moville, Co. Donegal

The Inishowen Peninsula is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful parts of Ireland. This B&B is centred between Moville and Redcastle. The views from this B&B overlooking Lough Foyle are awesome.

There is free wi-fi too which is handy as you Instagram all those beautiful pictures of your surroundings. The picture above is a view from the terrace of the B&B and as you can see, the view is spectacular.

The Lighthouse B&B – Dingle, Co. Kerry

Keeping things peninsula, this, further down south on the Dingle Peninsula is another B&B well worth your attention. It’s another family-run establishment and the views over Dingle harbour are simply amazing.

Pretty much all of the Dingle Peninsula is the stuff of dreams, if you dream constantly about beautiful scenic views and breathtaking vistas.

Lough Dan House – Co. Wicklow

Situated high up in the Wicklow mountains and on an eight acre farm overlooking Lough Dan, this is yet another accommodation offering you dream-like views and scenery. Wicklow is known as the Garden county and this is probably the flower-bed of that garden, given its stunning surroundings.

It’s run by the Byrne family and has passed through five of its generations. The house itself is decked out in under floor heating which is the clincher for us.

Many the night we’ve gotten up to go to the toilet, only to recoil with near cardiac arrest after our sleepy bare feet touch the freezing cold tiles. Yes, they’ve lovely views, great rooms, superb cooking, but it’s the underfloor heating which seals the deal for us.
