A Mayo taxi driver is making a lovely gesture to families that might be struggling over Christmas

Paul Moore

Sometimes, a small gesture can be huge. What an incredibly kind man.

While the pre-Christmas period is usually a hectic one as the majority of us scramble to complete our Christmas shopping, there are always some people that might be struggling to make ends meet, and at times like these, even the smallest of gestures can make a big difference.

You may already know about Mayo taxi driver Joe Freeley and his wonderful reputation for being a very kind man. Joe has frequently offered Leaving Cert students free transport on their results night, but rather than charge a fare, he offers his customers the chance to make a voluntary contribution to Pieta House, who have benefitted  from Joe’s kindness in recent years.

Once again, Joe is being very generous with his time and taxi over the festive period. In a recent Facebook post, he wrote “Do you know a family who are finding circumstances difficult to celebrate Christmas?
I am willing to take such a family on a day out to Castlebar/ Sligo /Athlone for a few hours – pm me directly here on Facebook – ‘ Christmas is for giving'”.

It’s fair to say that this is a very kind thing of Joe to do and it would be great to see others throughout the country follow suit.

Let’s look after each other over the Christmas period.
