The items up for bidding in this auction in Wexford couldn’t be more Irish

It’s for a great cause and hopefully it will get loads of support.

Irish people have a habit of being creative when it comes to fundraising for worthy local initiatives, particularly when it comes to the prizes on offer in local raffles and auctions.

The funds may not be there to offer up holidays or lucrative cash prizes, but more often than not, there’ll always be something that is sure to arise interest and to encourage the donation of a few quid.

That can certainly be said about an auction for the Cassagh Vintage Run in aid of the New Houghton Hospital residents’ activities, which takes place in Morrissey’s pub in Cassagh in Wexford on the last Sunday in May.

Amongst the items up for auction on the day will be, as you can see below, a percolation test worth €400 and a bag of manure worth €125, as well as a car service, an hour’s labour from a local electrician and luxury hampers for males and females (Click on ‘see more’ below for further details).

The Cassagh Vintage Run, of course, is only following in the fine Irish prize-giving tradition.

Who could forget, the triple offering of livestock by a GAA club in Cork, a Tipperary GAA club offering a J1 Visa and a month’s free accommodation in New York, or the GAA club in Offaly offering to put all their senior team to work by footing the turf of the winner of the Turf Bonanza Raffle?

Never change, Ireland.

Cheers to Donna Murphy for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter or mail [email protected].
