Barry Keoghan makes lovely vow to his old school after his BAFTA win

Barry Keoghan has vowed to pay a visit to his old school in North Dublin following his first ever BAFTA win this weekend. The 30 year old won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Banshees Of Inisherin, and dedicated his award to Ireland and “the kids that are dreaming to be something from the area I come from”. Speaking about his huge win, Barry's former teacher at O’Connell Secondary School, Conor Flood, told RTÉ: "An individual like Barry, they have something in them that the school is not responsible for, can only maybe nurture, but there is great pride.

“Every time I see him on television it is just slightly surreal but really enjoyable. “What he’s doing and what he’s done for himself and for his family and for the local area is immeasurable.”

"I'll drop in for a big aul' chat" - Barry Keoghan

After seeing the video of the students so inspired by his win, Barry took to Twitter to thank them and promised he would stop by next time he is home.

“This is beautiful THANK YOU lads for getting on national tv and saying those lovely things," Barry wrote. “I will drop in as soon as I am back to have a big aul chat Mr. Flood and Pauric Coyle. Drop over to the primary (school) too.”

Students in Barry's old school also spoke to RTÉ about the inspiration the award has given them, with Darragh Flynn Kenny saying: "He’s just a normal young fella from around the area, and just to be able to say he comes from the same place as me, he did the same things as me growing up, and he is where he is. “Even if it’s acting or football, or whatever, it’s like it gives you that bit of drive to push on say.
