Our guide to being happier with your working life

A few small changes can make a huge difference to your working life.

It’s very easy to fall into the trap of letting your working life overpower your personal life. Especially now that our smart phones keep us connected and plugged in all the time, it can be very hard to switch back into “me” mode.

Getting the balance right can be tricky, but there’s no reason why this should be the case. Seeing as our workplace is where you’re going to be spending most of your day, you may as well make sure you have the best experience possible.

With a range of wellbeing programmes, flexible working arrangements and great opportunities for growth from within, discover more about the fantastic career opportunities available now with Coca-Cola HBC.

Do something you love

It may seem like an obvious one, but it can be very easy to simply get caught up in the day-to-day routine. Take stock of the pros and cons of your current position, and perhaps consider having a look at where else your skills could be applied.

Plenty of large companies are making an effort to improve the work-life balance of their employees by actively encouraging them to pursue the things they love. Coca-Cola HBC offer plenty of fantastic opportunities regardless of your experience levels, and encourage all staff to get involved with activities that’ll keep them as happy as can be.

Build a team spirit

Seeing as you’ll be spending about eight hours a day with your colleagues (including pre-coffee morning hours), it’s important to have a good relationship with them. Once you find something enough of you have in common (like a love for movies, food, or sports), and set up a WhatsApp group for everyone.

This will help you have non work-related conversations, as well as give you a reason to meet up outside of office hours. You tell us an easier way to get a gang together…

Find an outlet

After a long and stressful day at work, it can be hard to resist the call of doing absolutely nothing for the rest of the evening. As important as it is to unwind, finding a more positive outlet can help you shake off any of the stress that may have followed you after clocking out.

Even if it’s just a local five-a-side, or something more adventurous like an airsoft team, you’ll soon notice a difference. Having something to focus on outside of working hours will not only help keep a healthy mindset, but all of a sudden work isn’t taking up such a big percentage of your life.

Perfection ain’t possible

Another easy pitfall is thinking that everything you do has to be perfect in every way, down to the finest detail. While of course it’s healthy to try and achieve excellence, spending too much time working on minor details can lead you to thinking your work isn’t up to scratch.

Learn to put down the hammer, folks.

Switch off

It’s been proven time and time again that the strong light emitted off mobile phones keeps us awake, and that notifications can interrupt your “me” time. Set a time, about an hour before you go to sleep, by which you want to start winding down and prepping for a good night’s sleep.

The best way to achieve this is by either putting your phone on airplane mode, or at least switching off your internet connection. Especially if you have your work email on your personal phone, it’ll also help you keep your personal and work lives separate.

Help others

You often hear about that warm fuzzy feeling you get from helping others, but there really is a lot of truth in that. As part of the annual “Our Charity” programme, Coca-Cola HBC raised more than €10,000 for Action Mental Health and the Marie Keating Foundation so far this year.

Every year since 2012, the staff have taken part in a football tournament to raise money for charities they pick themselves. No better way to improve your own work-life balance than by helping others!
