People are realising what the red Christmas lights are really for

‘I was today years old when I found out what these are for’

A woman has left TikTok stunned after revealing after revealing what the little red bulbs in Christmas lights should actually be used for.

Most of may have stumbled across them whilst rooting around for decorations or fairy lights and just assumed the red light is a spare.

But it turns out they have a very specific use.

Taking to the video sharing platform, the woman posted a demonstration of her putting the light to its intended use. By simply removing a single bulb and replacing it with the red one, you can give the string of lights a flickering effect.

The woman wrote across the video: “I was today years old when I found out what these are for.”

The video has amassed a staggering 19.2 million views since it was posted.

Hundreds flocked to the comments to admit that they also weren’t aware of this use for the red light.

One person said: “I thought it was a tester to see what bulbs don’t work??”

A second probably spoke for many when said they thought they were just “replacements.”

A shocked third used wrote: “I swear to god this app has taught me more in the last year than I have been alive.”

Meanwhile, someone else commented: “Dude all they had to do was write that somewhere on the box. I wasted so many years not knowing about this.”

And a fifth said they were “embarrassed” that they didn’t know this information.

But others claimed they’d known about the use for decades.

One person said: “As someone who grew up in the 90s…I thought everyone knew this – We didn’t always have remote control lights!!”

A second agreed: “I used to put up the Christmas lights at my parent’s house, so I didn’t know that this wasn’t common knowledge.”

A third said: “Thought everyone knew this. We called them blinkers!”
