Chuck Palahniuk breaks the first rule of Fight Club by announcing a new follow-up comic book

"You met me at a very strange time in my life"...

“You met me at a very strange time in my life…”

Upon learning that Chuck Palahniuk’s seminal novel is almost 18 years old, and that David Fincher’s superb adaptation is just 3 years younger, JOE feels old today. Very old.

We refuse to dwell on this though because we all know that “the things you own end up owning you.” However, the news of a comic book sequel has definitely peaked our interest.

More news is expected to emerge from a special Fight Club Comic-Con panel being held later this week, but the key news is this: a 10-issue Dark Horse Comics will arrive May 2015. This brilliant teaser promotional artwork was also released to mark the announcement.

Fight Club

The Dark Horse Comics’ blog summarises the plot as:

“Fight Club 2 takes place alternately in the future and the past. It picks up a decade after the ending of his original book, where the protagonist is married to equally problematic Marla Singer and has a 9 year-old son named Junior, though the narrator is failing his son in the same way his dad failed him.”

Speaking to USA Today, Palahniuk also teased the return of everyone’s favourite alter ego:

“Tyler Durden is something that maybe has been around for centuries and is not just this aberration that’s popped into his mind.”

The organization Project Mayhem will also be back, which will still hold sway over the narrator as he tries to protect his son.

JOE is somewhat sceptical about any sequel, however, we trust Palahniuk not to just go through the motions on a follow-up to his most famous work. What do you think? Let us know…
