With the Celtic Tiger currently lickings its wounds, there’s never been a better time to take advantage of a number unique perks and opportunities at the expense of the previous self-appointed kings of the economy, such as driving away in your own cut-price Audi R8 Wednesday night.
Formerly the preserve of popstars and Premiership footballers, a number of luxury cars are set to go under the hammer for Merlin Car Auction’s Prestige sale in Naas Wednesday.
Some of the prize motors for the July 14 massive sale event is set to include a Jaguar XKR, Porsche 911, Carrera 4 S, BMW x5, Mercedes C180, Landrover Discover, and a 75 Japanese import cars. In addition, private entries and part exchange vehicles are also on offer.
The undisputed crown jewel of Merlin’s auction, however, will be a 2008 Audi R8, a jaw-droppingly beautiful supercar that, according to motoring guru Jeremy Clarkson, “has it licked on all countsâ€.
Priced at €200,000 when purchased new, Merlin’s luxurious motor has less than 24,000 miles on the clock and is expected to go under the hammer for a considerable bargain.
Features on the Audi R8 include triptronic semi automatic gearbox, alloys, multiple airbags, rain sensor, leather upholstery, park distance control and electrically adjustable seats. The supercar was also the motor of choice for Robert Downey Jr.’s playboy Tony Stark in 2008’s action flick Iron Man.
