Opening Ceremony is a sportswear label founded in honour of which famous sporting event? You’ve guessed it, The Olympic Games.

I’ve been a fan for a long time. I first encountered it on a trip to New York in 2010 in the Soho area where its first standalone store was opened.

The label has since reached London (for the 2012 Olympics of course) and since then, Brown Thomas in Dublin.

Specialising especially in playful, graphic sweaters and street wear it’s creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim are the epitome of the brand itself, understated, quiet almost but plugged in to a very different frequency.

How different? Well today’s news of their latest product innovation, a bracelet called MICA (My Intelligent Communication Accessory) made in collaboration with chip manufacturer Intel is the first collaboration between a fashion label and a computer hardware company.

There are no boundaries in fashion and if there are OC are knocking them down. Details of the exact nature of the functions on MICA are as yet unknown though it will have a communication capabilities, wireless charging support and SMS facilities.

It is due for release in 2015…
