The site had 28.5 billion visitors in 2017. Wanna know what they were checking out?
Pornhub released the results of their Year In Review for 2017, and while some of the results were not surprising, there are definitely some entries that will raise more than a few eyebrows.
According to the site, the searches that helped define 2017 included “Cheerleaders”, “Hentai”, and “1080p”, because we imagine porn viewers are getting more and more into visual quality, and for the third year in a row, “Lesbians” is the most searched-for term.
However, with women now accounting for over a quarter of PornHub’s users, the biggest increase in searched for trends this year was “Porn For Women“.
Dr. Laurie Betito, a sex therapist and the director of Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Centre, said “Lesbians have been the number one fantasy of men since the beginning of time. For the men that aren’t likely to ever have a threesome with lesbians, this is an ideal way for them to live out their fantasy. We can’t ignore women viewers though; for women that have a soft fantasy or curiosity, lesbian porn allows them to explore that part of their sexuality without risk. Of course, for bi or lesbian women, this category is an obvious choice.”
On the flip-side, one of the most searched porn parodies was Rick & Morty. We’re not going to look too deeply into that one. We’re not here to judge, but this is also a work place, and we’ve got internet histories to think of.
Then we’ve got ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.
By itself, it isn’t specifically a type of porn, as it describes an experience characterised by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine, creating what some call a “low-key level of euphoria” and others call a “brain orgasm”.
The video will usually involve a young lady whispering seemingly random conversations, quietly reading, crinkling paper and plastic, eating crisps and other crunchy snacks, colouring, or otherwise making soft scratchy sounds.
Not what many people would consider to be qualified as a type of pornography, which just goes to show how much more open-minded and willing to experiment people are willing to get nowadays.
With their porn consumption, at least.
And, finally, there is Fidget Spinner porn. You don’t need a massive imagination to figure out what it consists of, but you can imagine it did involve a lot of amateur videos.
