Hollywood Drive of Fame: Delorean DMC 12

JOE

There have been quite a few cars made famous by Hollywood movies, so for this week’s Hollywood Drive of Fame we’re taking a look at the iconic Delorean DMC 12.

The public’s fascination with the Delorean DMC 12 stems from its leading role in a very popular ’80s movie – can you remember which one? That movie was, of course, the classic Hollywood hit Back to the Future, where the car was featured as a time travelling motor machine, but it had to reach a speed of 88mph first…

Although it looked like the most futuristic car of its time, the DMC 12 was actually pretty useless. The car quickly gained a reputation for being unreliable and fairly expensive to run and getting your hands on parts was almost as hard as getting your hands on a flux capacitor.

Couple that with the worst motoring industry performance the world had seen since the 30’s, the Delorean was doomed to fail during it’s short run in the 80’s.

Thankfully, the DMC 12’s legacy still lives on today, because like the phoenix, the car and company arose from the ashes and are alive and well today. These days you can buy rebuilt Delorean’s from the Delorean Motor Company based in Austin Texas.

Make sure to check out the DMC website to see what kind of cars, parts and DMC merchandise they have available.
