It’s Shark Week so here’s what you need to keep an eye out for on the telly

JOE

It’s time once again. Time to sit down in front of your television in your underpants, pour milk right into the cereal box, draw the curtains and take in the great blue madness of Shark Week.

In 1988 ‘Shark Week’ came about in an effort to raise awareness and respect for sharks (thanks in no small part, we assume, because of Jaws which came out a decade earlier). Today it is bigger and badder than ever, and while there is still a conservation element, the entertainment and sensational stuff goes up every year too.

So here is a list of things to look out for this week, which covers the full gamut from worthy to shark-sh*t crazy.

Air Jaws: Finding Colossus – Monday 7:00pm Discovery

Intrepid shark researchers go to South Africa to learn more about the worlds scariest shark, the Great White.

Mythbuster’s Jawesome – Monday 8:00pm Discovery

The Mythbusters gang investigate the biggest 25 myths about sharks.

Sharkpocalypse – Tuesday 7:00pm Discovery

Explores the trend of sharks moving closer to the shoreline which is resulting in an increased number of shark attacks.

Monster Hammerhead – Thursday 7:00pm Discovery

A crack team head out in search of a mythical 25ft Hammerhead shark called ‘Old Hitler’. We think a 25ft Hammerhead was already scary enough without that name.

And, of course, we recommend rounding out the week by watching the utterly brilliant Sharknado where a man LITERALLY jumps through a shark with a chainsaw. It’s beautiful.
