Keep the Head: Gym Mishaps

Ever had one of those days where your brain would rather work against you than with you? Here's how to keep the head and stay focused.

Ever had one of those days where your brain would rather work against you than with you? Here’s how to keep the head and stay focused.

A trip to the gym is great for keeping fit, blowing off some steam after work and in general feeling better about yourself, but it’s also a place where you definitely need to keep the head and stay hydrated.

Apart from getting quite a thirst from working out for a while, if you’re dehydrated and not fully focussed, you can end up doing a whole heap of embarrassing things that will leave your ego (and possibly your body) pretty bruised.

While it might seem the ideal place to warm up for a few minutes before hitting the weights, if you’re not paying attention on the treadmill you face flying off backwards and having the whole gym turn around to look at you while you’re upside down on the ground, feeling pretty sorry for yourself. From setting the speed to high to upping the incline so it feels like you’re climbing Everest, it can be a minefield if you’re not tuned in.

If you choose to avoid doing that and head for one of the other machines, you’ve got plenty to remember, firstly, how does this thing even work? There’s cables, handles, pulleys, weights, pins, as well as needing to remember the correct technique so that you don’t end up bringing the whole thing down on your head and knocking yourself unconscious. Again, that might attract a bit of unwanted attention.

Free weights come with their own series of hazards too, especially when you’re racking them back up and your head is somewhere else and you catch your finger in between two plates. It’s not a bad enough injury to complain about, but it’s bloody sore and you’ll have to stand around sucking your thumb in a room full of people lifting weights like manly men. That’s not a good look.

So remember, keep the head, stay hydrated with Deep River Rock and make sure you walk out of the gym looking like the muscled-up Adonis that we know we all are.
