Keep the head: Tech Problems

Some days you feel like you're fighting against your brain just to try and keep it ticking over, and that can all be made worse when you throw a computer in the mix.

Some days you feel like you’re fighting against your brain just to try and keep it ticking over, and that can all be made worse when you throw a computer in the mix.

Long gone are the days of tech problems being the concerns of a team of scientists all working off one computer in the back room of a musky NASA back office and the five richest kings in Europe who could afford a computer… These days, pretty much everyone has a computer, tablet, or smart phone.

You don’t need to be tech savvy to know how to do the basics these days either, but if you’re not switched on, then you can cause yourself a whole load of hassle or embarrassment in the blink of an eye, or the click of a mouse.

Something that frequently happens when we’re not fully paying attention is sending off an email with an important attachment without anything attached at all, particularly if you spent the whole email talking about how important that attachment is.

Saving your documents regularly is also a smart move, but if you haven’t got your eye on the prize because your brain is a bit frazzled from dehydration, then you’ll end up accidentally closing the document, not saving your changes, and ending up with another six hours of work to do that will keep you up until 3am of a Thursday morning, and trust us, there isn’t even anything good on TV at that time to have on in the background – unless you enjoy TV shopping.

But that’s not all. With all that technology in the palm of your hand, you can now embarrass yourself without leaving the comfort of your own bed! Making a typo in your text messages can be a small problem, but with a hilarious slip up or the solid work done by autocorrect, you can end up sending your boss a message that accidentally contains a load of ‘X’s at the end (one unnamed JOE suffered this fate recently – it was hilarious and he still hasn’t lived it down).

That’s the least of your worries though, when you could be sending more compromising messages to the wrong people too. You’d never live it down if you sent a message with your pet name for your girlfriend to one of your mates by accident, a truly horrifying prospect.

So remember, just keep the head, reach for a bottle of Deep River Rock and stay hydrated to make sure that your tech problems don’t turn into tech disasters. If all else fails, try turning your computer on and off again.
