NOSTALGIA ALERT: New Irish ad archive has released loads of the best Irish ads from the past 50 years

JOE

Check out some of the best Irish ads of all time with this brand new (pun definitely intended) Irish Film Institute project

In a fascinating new project, the Irish Film Institute has unveiled a gargantuan archive of restored Irish television advertisements from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

The Irish Adverts Project, funded by a grant from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, comprises almost 8,000 rolls of 35mm film and television ads, is a result of an amazing salvage effort from decades of storage in musty warehouses.

The project shows the amazing nostalgic power of advertising – we found ourselves lost for hours, browsing ads from childhood and seeing how much has changed in Irish television. From Cadbury and TK to Spar and CIE, everyone who grew up in the 1960-1990 era will recognise something.

To Ross Keane, director of the IFI, the project is a huge success:

“We are particularly pleased to be able to share the results with the public through our our new IFI Player, which provides access to many parts of our vast collection to audiences right around the world, free of charge.”

The Irish Adverts Project can be viewed on the new IFI player here
